I’ve been working on a vision statement for CGS and in conjunction with Jim Walton we’ve come up with the following as an initial idea
Vision Statement.
To serve the smaller Church, charity, non-profit, small business and others whom don’t have access to dedicated support – be it via volunteer or paid basis.
To see this be a vehicle to serve the Church and community so that God’s love may be seen by our actions.
To see this be a vehicle that will draw together those from different backgrounds; denominations; race; creed; upbringing; etc.
Why?
The first question has to be why.
I believe God imparted a desire in me to serve and to see my talents used to further His kingdom. I further believe that the small Church is missing out on fulfilling their vision because they don’t have access to dedicated Christian professionals willing to work for them and provide advice; even though they may not attend that Church or denomination.
There is a passion within me that needs to be satisfied by serving in God’s kingdom. I can best serve with what I know. My own children have labelled me a ‘geek’ and so the idea of Church Geek Squad (CGS) started to ferment.
How?
The how is the tough part.
Initially the vision was for a local CGS that serves God locally (for me that’s Bridgend in South Wales) but after some time chewing over the idea, I realise there is much merit in expanding this from local to worldwide. And anyway, why restrict God?
So by bringing a passion for the tech we know and love to passionately serve the smaller church by providing a network of geeks (NoG) that are locally accessible and verified (as yet unclear as to how we do this) by CGS. We would be the central portal to seek locally provided support wherever needed.
The technology is already available for us to do a lot remotely, where we can’t the reality is that we seek out a local NoG and provide an introduction. All further contact is then directly between the NoG and the Church, charity, business or individual. Any discussion regarding remuneration is strictly between you and the NoG.
CGS’s role will be as a provider or personnel (and an intermediary if necessary) and we will verify, to the best of our ability, the trustworthiness and suitability of the NoG we provide.
The only further involvement with CGS would be in providing some feedback about your NoG and should you need a further skill set that this NoG doesn’t provide.

So, what’s your opinion?
Do you see this as being something that could work?
Do you think you could get involved … specifically in your local area?
If so, please comment or get in touch by email and let us know what you can do?
